Located just above the village of Applecross and consisting of a couple of fields which in the recent rains were pretty badly cut up this site caters for tents and caravans/campers.
As usual it was a find your own pitch and while it was about half full there was surprisingly little level ground available that wasn't a bog. This was no doubt due to the amount of rain recently but we did end up on a slightly sloping ground which was less than ideal .
Facilities wise there is a bar and restaurant that we didn't use as we were only there one night and wanted to eat at the pub (which was expensive for beer but not food which was excellent) The only toilet block near reception was clean but woefully inadequate for a site of this size with only two traps and 2 showers. I was up at 7am and still had to wait for a shower to free up. In the far field there is another block that looks like it should have been an ablution block but it was locked up. Water seemed to be only available at the toilet block meaning a long walk for those of us in the far field.
Cost wise it was £6.50 for me, the motorbike and a small tent so not too bad there.
Applecross is pretty remote with the village made famous by the Monty Hall TV series and centred round the pub (which was packed with tourists) and little else. There is a small community run petrol station but if you are looking for shops to explore the go somewhere else. Access is either via about 30odd miles of single track road or the 10 mile single track "Pass of the Cattle". This was seriously scarey as visibility was about 10 yards and I had to use my satnav to see when the corners were coming up as the only visible features were the painted white lines on the edge of the road.
