Default Looking for a site in the Lake District

We've decided that we're going to camp up north somewhere at the end of July for a week. Up north means anywhere around the Lake District and across to the East coast.

We're looking for a smaller campsite that has excellent facilities, not 100 - 150 pitches and then queuing up for two traps or two showers, which isn't my idea of fun.

    Any recommendations?

No recommendation yet but I'm hoping to have a night at Gibraltar Farm - the prettiest campsite in Silverdale later on this week. It may be a bit basic for your needs but I'll let you know.

They also do special rates for the over 55's

I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

    Yeh very funny!
I think it might be a little bit basic. No shots or words on the facilities.

OK How about this at the other end of the scale? The Quiet Site, Watermillock, Ullswater. English Lake District
I stayed there many years ago and it was really nice. Expensive mind, but I was young and impetuous

Park Foot Ullswater - Welcome looked promising. I was actually looking for somewhere to stay when me and a pal were out on the bikes and the girl at reception said couples and families only. I know I like my mate and we get on well, but there are limits to what we will do to get onto a site.

I would however use it when camping with the family. I didn't check out the all of the facilities but, going by what I did see, it should be a good-un.

You were right about Gibraltar Farm - the prettiest campsite in Silverdale its pretty basic and the ablutions were basic and not quite clean enough to encourage you to stay any longer than was absolutely essential to get the job done . The rest of the site was clean and tidy, the views were great and it was cheap. I may well go back again on my own as a place to crash but not for a family holiday
