Default Campsites that allow wood burning stoves and are open all year.

I'd like to start a thread on camp sites that allow wood burning stoves and are open all year.

My research suggests that these are few and far between! Well it seems that way anyway. So if you know of any then please post here.

If the campsite have special restrictions then please mention them.

I will start with the Tudor Caravan Park, Slimbridge, Gloucestershire.
They will allow a wood burning stove as long as there's no chance of it burning the grass. In our case it's on several mats inside the Tipi so there's no chance. They are open all year and have fantastic facilities. Great place.

    Found another....

Abbey Farm Caravan and Camping Site in Mulchelney, Near to Langport in Somerset.
They have great facilities and welcome anyone with a wood burning stove as long as it doesn't burn the grass, and they are open all year.
Plus they have great facilities so no compromise there.
I've done a full review on the site separately.

    Cool Real fires!

FYI check out WOWO. If you havnt already…

I suppose that there is an issue with controlled fires for insurance purposes for campsites in general, and thats why most sites dont allow real flames? I can see the point, but whats camping if you dont have some embers to play with / cook on and a bit of visual entertainment for the evening? Maybe it just the neanderthal man and bbq thing?

    Wowo Campsite - Sussex

There is a 2 night minimum stay. Deposit is 50% on booking.
Prices are £10/adult per night and £5/child

    ! Looks a bit trendy !

I can also add to the list, the Swiss Farm International Camp site just outside of Henley on Thames.
Now they aren't open all year, but they are open a fair old chunk, between the 1st March - 31st October and they take wood burning stoves as long as they won't burn the grass, so deserve a mention.

    Smile real fires!

Have just come back from a bike tour round Wales and a wee stint in Devon.

Two sites where fires were not a problem and a good time had.

First was in Macynlleth in Nth Wales, dead opposite the entrance to the Centre for Alternative Technology. Wood not supplied but plenty of space down by the river to relax and cook your sausages on open flames. Fella there had an Africa Twin in the shed with about 5k miles on it and bought for well under the going rate.

Secondly, Hole Station – an old railway station site near Okehampton / Bideford (somewhere) is run by a family in a totally ecologically sound environment, and where, for a small fee, a basket of copsed, dried wood will be provided for your cokking /campfire experience. We managed to stay up to the wee hours and carbonise the lot, but one basket could last you three or four camp cookings if you were less enthusiastic! Well worth a visit. Fresh free range eggs in the mornings and all. Facilities include dry toilet (and sawdust), wash-up space, hot water and showers, caravan toy and book library.

Apparently this was just exposed by an article in the Times, so expect a wave of bookings!

Also, Greg who runs the show, has an immaculate Royal Enfield Bullet Electra which he is planning on taking through spain and Morocco. – if you are at all interested!
