Thumbs up We dont much, a campsite that allows dogs, fires, good location and a pub very close

    Hi all, first post

We are a couple that have 2 doggies and we love to all go are camping at least 2 or 3 long weekends a year. Our usual spot is the Hollybush Inn @ Hye on Wye. Its got it all (wooded area/fires/good pub on site with quirky local bands that provides entertainment. We highly recommend it.

This is year we set ourselves a mission to find another site that is just as good that at least ticks the same boxes.

    Any recommendations?

    Hi,

you don't state your location, or how far you like to travel? There is a thread on here about Campsites that allow wood burning stoves and are open all year., as that is probably the sticking point on one of your boxes...

    Hey there

Well we are in Bedfordshire, but we are open to travel as far as the lakes down to Devon and Cornwall, so we have a large canvas to work with :-)

I know the campsite you are talking about very well. I used to work at a outdoor centre based in Glasbury and we used that campsite to get in and out of the Wye with canoes. I thought it was starting to look a little bit tatty a few years ago. Has it changed at all?

Here is a link to a campsite I stayed at a few months ago. Is quite small but the facilites are amazing and the service is friendly. It is a short walk in to Brecon where im sure youve been before and know how nice that area is.

    Def worth a look.

Default Beers, good people and a general good lively vibe.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the link, it looks very nice and peaceful. Does it have a pub nearby?

As for the Hollybush, It is always a bit rough round the edges, but the setting especially in the woods, the live bands, the owner Barbera walking arounf barefoot and enjoys her morning bath in the river wye, all adds up to a quirky lovable site.

Not to mention the people, yes they allow groups, but they tend not to be groups of male beer louts but but of a more "doctor/lawyer professional friend types looking to bond over a weekend of beers and fire. Dont get me wrong, is not lights out at 11.30 type campsite, there people enjoying fires and beers into the wee small hours, but it within accepted limits and there is a general good vibe about the place.

Have a look at their website, Im sure it has changed since you were there last.

if you fancy going to Derbyshire, then check our Grouse and Claret camping site, been there a couple to times and love it, loads to do near by, the only thing im not sure of is the log burning stove, but i was allowed a BBQ so I cant see why not.

There are plently of little villages around to visit, plus plently of walking that you can do.

The pub on sites lets you take your drinks to your tent (which is always a bonus) and the food is some of the best I have even eaten, but we usually just eat in there for one night as I like to do my own cooking while camping.

Ewelweze Farm in Weymouth is lovely, right on the sea,dog friendly and camp fires allowed they don't have a pub however they sell beer etc in their shop, it is only open in august but is a stunning, friendly, proper camp site, lovely views especially at night you can see the whole of the Weymouth sea front, the moon lights up the sea and the smell of the fires is amazing, would defo reccomend it this year as well you will be able to see the sailing from the Olympics )
