Why do I like camping? Not too sure really. My first attempt was at Le Mnas in 85. Woke up with a wet tent on my nose! These days I suppose it's a relaxing, cheap get away from it all holiday. Oh and her indoors wanted to do it!!

I do it to primarily get away from it all but it also allows me to do a bit of motorcycle touring on the cheap and also means I can pretty much make it up as I go along.

And it allows me to build fires
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

Well personally I've was brought up on camping holidays and living out in the country as a kid i spent many nights out camping, it's something that provides me with a sense of freedom and detachment from the everyday routine.

    Thumbs up

Good question, not entirely sure I know the answer

The truth is, we can and often have just booked a nice Hotel or B&B somewhere, but this is just different. And I think that's the key for me, everyone should do something different sometimes.

I used to go camping as a youngster and just enjoyed doing things for myself. But now, I just like the idea of taking a bit of a risk (weather wise for example) and being outdoors. Also, the search for good sites is fun.

I suppose my real camping started when I joined a motorbike club around 24yrs ago.I was badgered to go camping with them
and decided to have a go.I borrowed my nephews tent and bought a cheap sleaping bag. Got a few cooking gear and went. It rained practicly all of the three days and couldn't believe it.I enjoyed every minuit of it. Met the now wife and and we have had many enjoyable camping holidays since.

We decided to give it a go because the generic family holidays were getting boring and we wanted more freedom to do as we pleased not on a timescale

I've been camping on and off all of my life, started out in a frame tent with my parents and then progressed through various ridge tents and trailer tents.
now the wifes arthritis doesn't agree with camping I have to confess to having a motorhome for family holidays but I still like to get away on my own on the bike with a little tent.

having said that my little tent is a little too little for bike trips so I'm looking for something a bit bigger, Khyam biker or the likes.

wanted to visit WW2 sites around Europe, went keycamp first, then my wife suggested we try doing it for ourselves. Conway trailer tent worked for a couple of years, but took so long to put up and down, then happened upon a reasonably cheap Raclet Quickstop which is up in 5 minutes and COMFORTABLE in my advancing middle age. could not reccomend highly enough, just wish we'd bought one years ago. camped near Monaco last year, magic! great site JD

Hi everyone, i am new to this site. We first camped about 7 years ago after my OH left brochures around until I said, 'why dont we try camping?'. The sneaky man lol.

We love it. There is no tv, you get a good nights sleep and as a family we feel closer and really relaxed.

We hired a cottage last year and i really missed my tent. Cant wait for next season.
