Default Why did you decide to try camping?

We've got a few new faces about and quite a few new to camping.
So why did you decided to give camping a go?
    What attracts you to it?
Is it all you expected it to be?

I like the outdoors and the sound of rain at night on the tent.

Listening to the sea or river , that is usually nearby.

    And This ......

I've gone camping or caravaning for as long as I can remember (that's about 3 weeks nowadays ). Mum & dad used to have a caravan at Clitheroe in the 60's and 70's, then I took to camping out with my mates and then it progressed to backpacking. I still like backpacking but nice peacful weekends away are just the job.

Well haven't been camping yet we go to kelling heath norfolk beginning of sept been in a caravan there but never a tent so new experience for me! I said I would never do it but when I see other ppl doing it & having fun I thought what is my problem?? just do it & this way we can get to go away alot more as well cos its cheap! So afew weeks ago sold the wii & brought a tent! I think i need to be more adventurous & try these things so thats my reason.

I never decided to try camping, my folks took me on my first camp in 1964 to Reighton Gap on the east coast, we had the Cabanon tent for a good twenty years and Dad sold it when there was only him and mum still using it, circa 1987 ish, so for me, camping is second nature

Took a while to talk the OH into it as she thought it was all ridge tents and getting dressed lying down, once she tried it there was no going back and she's the one always planning the next trip

    Why do i like it?

Rising early morning while the dew is still lying on the grass, the smell of fresh coffee and the fresh air as the zip is raised for the first time of the morning, total bliss

When people ask me if I have any spare change, I tell them I have it at home in my spare wallet.

First camping I ever done was at the age of 8, The South African Army used to take all the immigrant children on a yearly school camp and play simple war games with them

No wonder I turned out like I am

My ancestors were 'Hunter/gatherers', perhaps the Ti pi and open spaces call to me in my dreams! Who knows? It is just a part of me! I was very young when I got a scolding for making a tent from a blanket that i nailed to the handles of Dad's garden forks! I then spotted his 'ring crop' of runner beans....My first Ti pi!!!
I have progressed, but I like to recycle old stuff: caravans, campers etc. My camper is a rebuilt wreck. My caravan is a rescued 1985 ABI and my favorite tent, a 4x4mtr frame tent came from a local tip 15 years ago!
I have a new Ti pi tent that I will use For the first time at my upcoming meet. The new 6 man, multi screen tent I bought last year, is still in it's packaging and up for sale!
I have now started arranging camping meets, so I guess that camping is in my blood. My Mother thought that the nails in the handles of Dad's garden forks, was funny! I think it was ingenious! Paol. [He with the laughing heart]
