I've been told that in Scotland you can pretty much camp for a couple of days anywhere in the countryside that isn't obviously cultovated providing you have a trowel to bury organic waste, is it as simple as that ?

Pretty much so. There is some excellent info on the MCofS Guide to Wild Camping webpage.

There has however been recent problems round Loch Lomond and the Trossachs (stop tittering at the back) where gangs of yobs have been turning up with their Tesco tents and gallons of beer. They spend the night hacking down trees, getting drunk and then go home the next day leaving tents and beer cans behind. This has become such a problem that the authorities have recently declared no go zones for wild camping.

I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu
