I've never seen this but I suggest it's in an attempt to save the grass.

In good old days before the sewn in groundsheets (SIGs) we used to fold the groundsheet back to let the grass breath during the day and fold a different side on alternate days. At least that way the grass got to breath 50% of days. In fact it was extremely rare to see yellow grass. Nowadays it's difficult to find a pitch where the grass isn't yellow and often it's gone brown, or gone altogether.

How one would help if your tent has a SIG is beyond me though.
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

Yep I've wondered the same things. Do they really make that much difference and why are the so damned expensive?

This Site I am at the moment, Wolvey, asks campers to move their tents every few days to same the grass. This is easy with modern tents and they have the room.
I don't think 'breathable' would be much help. The grass needs light to photosynthesise so it needs to be exposed to the daylight.

Now that's interesting. However I would consider it a major pain to have to do that every so often.

I have just confirmed with the management. About every week so I guess if you are there for 4 weeks max move 4 times.
I don't know about this personally I might have more to say when I am forced to do it.

Most camp sites implement a strict policy that we campers should obey.

I appreciate that campsites have rules but I wouldn't want to unpack my tent to move it over and then peg it down again!! Sound like a royal pain to be honest!! X
