after looking through a lot of the 'commercial' campsites i have to say i think some of the sites are having a laugh at the rates they want to charge, i appreciate that they see the cost of the showers, the washing up point and the laundry room all cost money , but i always see camping as a cheap option but at £20 a night its not cheap!!

Yeh we had this discussion just the other night..... mind you with the big tent and electric hook-up our prices are expensive anyway.

That place in Dent we stayed for the national was cheap about £4 per night I think.

£20 does seem a bit steep though.

I've noticed that a lot of the bigger sites charge for the pitch, then each occupant, then a car space and then they hit you for a fee per dog.... that lot totaled £22 on one C&CC site.

It seams they work on the principle, the facilities are there so you pay, if don't want or use them ...tough.

I can under stand that for family tents its part of the deal but it must drive backpackers/bikers etc away?

Twenty quid They're having a laugh. The most I ever paid was 28 euros in Toledo and that was a tipi, two persons and two bikes, and I thought that was bad.

I guess there could be an element that these sort of campers don't make them money like a big family tent with loads of kids would, so pricing the pitch so high deters backpackers/bikers which they don't want?

It does seem there is a move towards charging for the pitch regardless of the size of tent pitched. The days of a couple of quid for a 2 man tent seem to be gone now especially when you can get much more a night for an 8 man on a similar sized pitch.

Some sites still have morals though and these are the ones we should praise here.
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

On the coast ride i stayed in burham on sea for the night they charged £20.00 for a two man tent and they knew it was a charity ride but would give no discount. cheapest was in mid wales £3.50 a night now thats more like it.
