Hi, Can anyone recommend any campsites in the North wales area? Must be kid friendly and maybe a chance to do a spot of beach fishing too.
I have looked on various sites for campsites and some of the prices just seem to be a rip off for a area of grass and a shower block!
Is there any sites with kitchen areas or under cover sections?

Hi Dave, Had a few sites recommended from the BMW forum, Shell Island sounds interesting, only for campers (tents) no need to book just a big plot of land with some nice beaches. They have their own website. Might give it a try.
Yes I've heard of Shell island. No booking though which would probably put me off. Travelling all that way to find them full!
Sounds idyllic though.

Hi Dave, I was worried about the booking part, it's about 3-4 hour drive from me. I emailed them and they seem postive that there is plenty of room over easter. It is said to be the largest campsite in Europe! Where ever I end up I will post it on the site.
Shell Island is great. You basically have the run of the island to decide how private you want to be. If you pitch close to all the ameneties then it is likely to be quite busy but it might be worth pitching a little distance and you will feel nice and secluded. It is also great for adventuring over the sand dunes etc. The local town Llandbedr is lovely too - there is a big pub close to the causeway which is good for food and families although I cannot remember the name. It is also a good position to visit places like Harlech etc
The only downsides I can remember are that the bar area gets quite busy and the shop is quite expensive.
Have fun
Many thanks, it's nice to hear something positive about a place.
fact they only allow access with a vehicle puts me off Shell Island.![]()
bit further north you could try Black Rock Sands nr Morfa Bychan.... great place, big wide beach and severial campites ranging from tin towns to eco tent in dunes.

I reckon this one - farm campsite, right near the beach - looks awesome: Platt's Farm Camping - Llanfairfechan :: Camping Ninja
I drove past Shell Island recently - it is pretty vast - could get windy i would imagine!!!
Thanks for the suggestions. We went to Black Rock Sands in the end. There were about 20 of us and had a great time, although got a little wind burn to the chops after spending the day on the beach. They were very accomodating in reserving a large pitch without deposit and the facilities were good. Wasn't very impressed with the (nearly) on-site bar though that served expensive flat lager but I suppose it did not matter too much in the end.
The following week, however myself and the girlfriend travelled down to cornwall and had 7 nights at Headland Campsite in Tintagel which was superb!!! £14 per night for the 2 of us with tent and car. Fantastic showers. Laundrette on site with dryers - however the site provide a large communal washing line. Good value camp shop. The grounds are kept immaculate - the bins around the site empties twice daily so no need to trek around with black bags!!
