    Default Hello, I'm coming back!

    To camping! Well hopefully anyway
I'm Jane, divorcee in her fifties with two grown up daughters & a dog.
Haven't camped since the girls were a lot younger, I loved it but ex husband hated it!
I don't go away much because a) can't afford it & b) like to take my dog with me.
I love the outdoors, walking etc. & one of my daughters has rediscovered camping since helping out at Marine cadets.
I'd been thinking about it for a while & decided that I'm going to do it!
After quite a bit a research I just bought a Vango Artemis 500. (Of course I've missed all the beautiful weather but hoping to get away for a bit in September!)
The thing that I really need help & advice with is comfort. I don't mind what the weather's like during the day but I really want to be warm and comfortable at night. I don't want to freeze & wake up in the morning unable to move
Lots of lovely sleeping bags out there. Think I'll be going for the Coleman Hampton. But I've been looking at airbeds. Or do I go for a self inflating mattress? I have read that more cold comes up through an airbed. Self inflating mattresses seem to be a bit on the narrow side though, 50/60cm. Not that I'm big, average build, 5ft 5".
So, if you're still reading & I haven't bored you, I would be grateful to hear of anyones experiences with airbeds/mattresses.

    Welcome to to forum Jane,

I've used both and for me the thermarest wins hands down. It's warmer, smaller when packed, doesn't need a pump and is much more robust. I've twice had leaks on airbeds and there is nothing worse than waking in the middle of the night up with your bum on the deck.

As for size Thermarest do a large size mat which is a couple inches longer and wider than the regular mat.
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

    Hi hun,

I must say comfortable camping for me is the way forward. We have a kingsize divan height airbed and really do have a good nights sleep on it.
I make it up just like my bed at home- bottom sheet, duvet and normally take an extra blanket.

We also have a butane gas heater which we put on for a couple of hours before going to bed- this warms the tent and also stops the bedding being alittle damp!

    I hope this helps

    Louise
