    Default Locking tents

I often see tents padlocked shut with those little suitcase padlocks. Its not something I do myself but others seem to think it worth while.

What do the folks here think? Are they being paranoid or prudent and will a padlock really stop someone wanting to get in?
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

    Hmmm that's an interesting one.
    I've not seen any padlocked.

We just pull our zip down and ensure that all valuables are with us.
However I guess it might disuade some people.
I can't see any easy way to padlock our tent.... I will have a look though next week when we have our next outing.

seen more and more people using stainless steel mesh 'valuables' nets for big stuff but never seen a tent padlocked!... after owning several rag top cars i fall in the dont lock it and have your roof trashed along with your goodies stolen camp!!!

I guess there is also the idea that by padlocking your tent your telling thieves you have something worth stealing!

I must admit to agreeing that locking a canvas / nylon tent is a waste, if they want something a knife would ruin the tent.

My view is the same. I suppose it might stop inquisitive kids but anyone intending to nick something wouldn't be put off and you would just end up with no gear and a damaged tent.

Would be of little use on our big tent as it doesn't have a SIG (Now there is a topic that could run forever SIG or no SIG). They could just pull a couple of pegs and slither under.
