    Default Camping Top Tips!

    Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well. I am currently doing a bit of writing for a website about camping and I was wondering if you would be able to help me out. I'm wanting to include a "Top Tips" section with numerous different peoples tips... It doesn't matter if there obvious or obscure, every "top tip" is very welcome!

On a related subject, does anyone have any tips they learn't from an unfortunate camping experience? I have personally hiked half way up a Scottish Munro with friends ready to camp then realised that, after a good airing, I packed my tent away without the poles. Well at least it was a dry evening.

Any tips or stories that you would like to share (that you wouldn't mind me including in my writing) would be much appreciated. (If you leave your name/username I'll reference you in the piece).

I'll put up a link once it's completed.

    Cheers
    Alastair

Well based on other threads.... keeping warm is a must. I remember going camping in late Summer, unprepared really with an air bed. I got to the campsite late and they didn't serve food, the nearest shop was miles away, so after a bit went to bed. Was cold in the night, so got dressed. Put every piece of clothing I had and was still shivering. It was a long and miserable night. Bought silk liners then next day which helped a little, but ensured that I went to bed on a full stomach which did seem to help. Oh plus the beers. I now always take thermal underwear, 3 season bag, silk liner, self inflating mat, woolly hat and I can always shed clothing or items if I need to and I too warm!

a few off the top of my head...
    1. duct tape is awesome, but a whole roll is bulky and heavy. roll 3" around the handle of your torch.

    2. turn 1 battery around in the torch so it cant turn on in your luggage and be flat when you need it. LED lights use much less power.

    3. bum wetwipes, kept in a small flat tupperware type waterproof box are easy to carry and you dont get caught out in the toilets.

Before you go camping, always practice on putting up a new tent before you travel to check that you can do it and all its parts are in suit.

I am relatively new to camping as well - but reminicissing upon the the rare occasions of camping when I was young boy all I would recommend is that you: (a) practice putting the tent up and giving yourself enough time, you donīt want to do it when itīs dark. (b) Test and make sure your tent is waterproof. (3) Take plenty of food, (4) plenty of clothes and spare batteries for your torch; and of course take a french coffee press.

Finally, I have one tip: try and make sure you are somewhere near a cheap hotel in the event that you just canīt take it anymore! Hope this helps
