Tentipi Safir 9 CP - Keeping us warm in the night.
Khyam Biker - Keeping me dry for the last few years.
Hi Dave
We have only ever used a synthetic tent once, about 20 years ago and they are not for us, but for some campers they are just what they require,But for us 100% cotton canvas is what we prefer.
Due to multi joint arthritis, frame tents with lots of pegging is now beyond my capabilities,so my good lady as finally agreed to move on from all the Cabanon tents we have used and never been let down with any of them, but from now on will be camping in this Karsten tent 350 - tenten - karsten - tent - oppompbare - karsten tenten we have the 325 and just the comfort awning front wall and rain awning plus the Zig for the awning,
With just 4 pegs and a max of 18 pegs in total,no frame just (wind)to erect We will still be using our Tatonka tarps to cook under as the tent as both sig/zig that we wont use LPG inside for safety reasons. In the Summer months we will use our 12 volt solar power system but in the colder months we will revert to an Electric hookup for heating.
at our age we do feel the cold
Best regards
Rex

Well, well, well. We bump into each other again. Have you been on that fishing trip yet?
Hi FS,
It is always a pleasure to bump into another camperby the way its not fishing but birding We will be away this Saturday 5 days in north wales the 2days at Landon beck Teasdale, then we will have 7 nights in the boat of Garten in the Cairngorms national park
then across to the isle of Skye for 7 nights our aim is to tick of 7 birds that I can only get in Scotland plus to see the otters and seals, dolphins and minky wales from the shore also a possibility of wild cat and pine martin, Some oldens go on world cruses, some go to the farr away places with strange sounding names, but val and I choose to go and look for the wonderful wildlife in the highlands of Scotland and the north of England and Wales.
Regards FS

Even as I typed I knew I'd got it wrong. Put it down to age.
Would one of those seven birds be a Golden Eagle?
I really do rather fancy the islands up there. I would, of course, have to include Islay as it houses at least three of my favourite whiskies!! Do let us know how it goes and publish your pictures.
Hi again FS
Yes Golden Eagle and White tailed sea eagle, Capercaillie Ptarmigan Black grouse, crested Tit and Scottish crossbill.
plus a chance to also sea a few scarce sea ducks and shore birds![]()
I have now checked out my camping gear solar power station rewired ready for the warmer weather, but we have decided we will use an Electric hookup in the winter months We shall be trying out a few of the sites with all weather pitches then, not like grass but better than mud![]()
Due to having to keep my insulin cool and not wanting an EHU we have purchased one of these that will stay in the boot and get cooled when we go of every day. it cools to 30 deg 'C' below ambient so it will have good insulation and it is just a nice size .and as the built in thermostat limits the coolinf to +5 c it will not freeze my medication, technology just gets better.
WAECO TropiCool TC 21 Thermoelectric Cooler (WTC21FL) - TropiCool
We will be taking the little laptop with us to Scotland and if the dongle can pick up a connection we will keep in touch.
Give your boys my regards.
Rex.

Rex,
You may well be aware of this, but while Scotland around the west coast is great place to see otters, one of the best places to see "inland " otters in the UK is Shapwick Heath, on the Somerset levels. They seem to be active throughout daylight hours here and we have watched up to three otters at a time, all morning and past lunch time while birdwatching.
I wish you luck in you Scottish wildlife quest.

How do you find the Karsten? Is it really that easy and quick to pitch? What is pack size like? We've always had Cabanon tents but they are a bit of a struggle now with health issues (the Barbados isn't too bad but frames are another story with having to lift the canvas over). It seems to me that the Karsten is basically only a bedroom, then you have to add the awning for a living area? Don't the awnings take as much pitching and pegging as any other tent?
I'm interested to know how you would compare the two, and what your thoughts are about your new canvas.
Thanks.
P.S. If you don't mind me asking, Rex, did you buy your Karsten new, or used? They are few and far between in the U.K. aren't they? Did you manage to see any on display, anywhere?
Cabanon prices are steep this year, but Karsten are downright scarey.
Another question: is it a bit dark inside the main part of Karsten? What colour is yours?
Thanks again, and I hope you're enjoying your break.
