    Default Trangia spirt burners..

The old MOD spirit burner I used to have as a back up rarely got used but when it did it always left everything black with soot, now after buying a new trangia with spirit burner the thought of everything covered in soot again doesn’t thrill me!

When doing research on trangias I did come across a post that said that you can stop the soot problem by adding 10-15% water to the spirit, it’s something I have not heard of before and wondered if anyone has and tried it?

Yes I've heard (but never tried) of that before. I used to be interested in miniature stationary engines that were meths powered and some people recommended this to keep the soot down in the boilers. Me? Well I was more interested in the mechanicals than looks and my stuff was just manky.

I suppose I could dig out one of the brass boilered models and clean up and then experiment. Bit worried it could get me started again though
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

from reading all the blurb on the net i can find it seams that the soot issue is directly down to the source and quality of the meths...

if your looking for a good read try this!! ...zen and the art of alcohol

going to take a wander into the village tomorrow and see what in the chemists/hardware

I've tried running mine with a bit of water mixed in...........

I think it did reduce the blackening but made it harder to initially light and get the "flame" going properly. I also felt it didn't burn quite so hot either

In my opinion, I'd just go with it as is and clean it up after.....
