    Default Improving Equipment

    Hey Guys,
I am currently in my final year of University at Sussex, I am studying Product Design.
My Final Design Project is going to encompass camping and at the moment I was thinking of trying to improve an aspect in the daily life of campers.
My current ideas are to improve a stove to make it more balanced and wind resistant, to create a unique chopping board that make cooking easier, or to design a new tent that enables new users to erect it easily or take it down easily (or maybe a way that shows the user to to put it up just by the way it is stored).
Any response would be greatly benefitical.
    Thanks very much,
    James Duncan

Someone beat you to it. Shouldn't have had that last pint in the pub See Camping Stove Help

As for chopping boards. I wouldn't mind something that folded or crushed up for packing in odd spaces but when turned over became rigid for cutting on. In saying that I usually use my plate.

As for tents. I bet you could make some simple mods which would allow one person to pitch the bigger tents as usually the second person is simply there to hold things as opposed to actually doing something technical.

    I want 10% mind
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

my daughter is somewhat jealous as she's got the same task but is only her first year of A levels and has been given the task of improving a hole punch.....

mind you if she was doing a camping stove she'd have burned the house down by now

I am a big user of hole punches. The main problems are:-

Needs a longer lever for doing multiple sheets.

If it has an guide rail for doing say A4/3, that it locks so not to move too easily.

The whole thing sticking in the closed position and not springing back.

The things being swiped when you most want them, somewhere to put the name of who it belongs to.

Perhaps a way of clamping it to a desktop but only if required.

Cover to the punchings reservoir stays on properly rather than falling off and causing a mini snow storm.

I'll try and get her to make the hole punch a multi functional device.
