I have looking at fuel options for the omnifuel over the last week or so and did a bit of digging around looking at gas cartridges
A trip into millets (nearest camping of any stores to us) and amazed at the extra cost the screw on cartridges were over the old ‘pierce to use’ ones.
I know Vaude made an adaptor kit that allowed the use of various cans but is not cheap so any saving in gas is... well, 'burnt' up with the cost of the adaptor!
so what else is out there, Markill (a German stove maker) has for a while made an adaptor to connect screw thread stoves to the campingaz CV270 and CV470 cartridges... at £12 its not to bad but as the cost of the campingaz cartridges is the same as the coleman/primus/optimus and most others it’s no great saving. The big plus though is the CV or ‘click connector’ developed by campingaz (aka Coleman) is rapidly becoming the standard especially throughout mainland Europe so it’s a handy gizmo especially to keep in your backpack weighing it at just 75grams and get you out of troble one day!
Sooo still not happy I done a bit more digging and found the GoSystem GS2190 or 'travelpak'.. in simple terms is a holder for the old ‘pierce to use cartridges’ with a Lindal type screw valve on the top which will mate to most modern stoves.... At £10 it’s not going to break the bank and being plastic it’s not going to add much weight to your pack either.
The ‘pierce to use’ cans retail from 99p to about £1.50 for 190g and the lindal screw on cartridges are £3.75 (budget one for a blow torch) to £5 for a campingaz, primus, coleman etc one, so even with the cheapest setup after just 4 190g cartridges the adaptor pays for its self, and there after you save 50-75% on every can you use
