    Default Sleeping bag expansion panel

As per the other thread I'm looking for a 3 season sleeping bag and these days most of them seem to be mummy bags. The problem I have had in the past with mummy bags is they are a bit tight for me as I am apparently a rather restless sleeper. Either that or I am a fat git!

On Blacks website this Blacks BLKS QUAD 3 bag caught my eye as a suitable bag, not just because it is 3 seasons and keenly priced but because I can also get a Blacks Quad Expansion Panel Which I assume is a zip in section to make the bag a little bigger in girth.

Has anyone got any experience of expansion panels? I'm confused about the material involved. The website states aluminium!

No they are news to me also?...

I too have trouble with fitting in them (more as i like to move around like you than a fat barsteward) and i have a Vango Viper 1000 that i can get in just when all zipped up but i am litterally like a mummy, lol. What i was going to do is buy another bag and zip them together (like couples do) but just for myself.

Only problem is, it cost me £140 so it means shelling out again

Just a thought and if your bag is not too expensive might be worth looking at

Coleman do extra wide sleeping bags.
My misses has the Coleman Hampton 210 which is a fantastic cotton lined big bag.

    A website says.....

The Coleman Hampton Sleeping Bags are a soft and sumptuous range of over-sized sleeping bags (modelled on Stanetta) that are also reversible so you can change the look of your bag according to the weather. Sleeping in soft cotton on warmer evenings and sleep in supersoft flannel should the evening be cool. These bags feature Coleman's own Coletherm Double Layer insulation that enhance the loft and warmth of the bags. The Hampton 210 comes in Chocolate with Plaid lining colorway and features a huge 100cm chest measurement. It also features all of Coleman's Easy Sleep characteristics: zip plow, autolock zipper, Thermolock zipper baffle, pillow pocket, thermo-collar, security pocket and 3D foot area. With a Limit rating of +4°C we'd suggest for use in the spring/summer months only. These bags come in just RH zip option but two bags can be zipped together just by flipping one of them round to form a RH-LH combination.

    Length: 210cm
    Width: 100cm
    Weight: 2.795kg
    Pack Size: 36x46x13cm
    Temperature Range: -11°C to +8°C
    Comfort Rating: +4°

Gulp! Very good point. Hastily adds that it's just that it allows plenty of room for manoeuvre.

Being a large lass I struggle with mummy bags too.
Does your bag roll up small enough for the bike?

I have got a Snugpack bag with an "expanda panel". Basically a big triangle of sleeping bag material and filling with a zip either side. This zips into the main bag and adds about 30cm at the shoulders and about 5cm at the feet. Sunugpack do'em in summer and winter ratings and with a a YKK no.8 zip will zip into any other bag with the same zips, eg my wife's Nanok bag and probably many many more.

I bought the expanda panel as an extra long after I had bought the sugpack, but had to get the zips changed on my bag as it was such an old one. The panel turns a very compact mummy bag into something much more comfortable and has solved much of the claustrophia I started getting when camping - my 6man tipi did the rest. It does make the bag a lot cooler so I use either a silk liner up to my 'pits or a big bivi bag over the outside in cold weather.

I think they are about £25.
