    Default Tilley Storm Lantern mantles

All this talk of liquid fueled stoves spurred me into digging out our old Tilley Storm Lantern which had lain idle for over 25 years. After a clean up all seems OK with the lamp holding pressure but as you would expect the mantle has gone bye bye.

Tilley list two mantles as suitable for this lantern the 164X which is the standard mantle and the 164H which is the "Happy Mantle"

Anyone know what on earth a happy mantle is?
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

I believe that the *happy Mantle* has a spring clip instead of a tie. To make to easier to fit...
    If memory serves me correctly

A self healing lamp! Wow! Now that is clever.

The first time I lit the lamp (after about 25 years) there were a couple of weeps from various places. I guess the sealing washers had dried out and gone hard. leaving it overnight seems to have fixed it and it's now holding pressure nicely.

Bloomin' thing runs for hours and hours on one pint of paraffin and is much, much brighter than my gas lantern. If only it was a bit more robust I could see it becoming our main lantern when away with the big tent and car.
