    Default Tarp help.

I am looking to buy a tarp around 3/4 metres in size, any advice on where to buy a good lightweight one? I have had a look around on the net but it all seems a bit confusing with so many giving me no idea of weight, fixing points etc.

I went through this a while ago and they can be horrendously expensive for a few yards of material. I ended up going for the DD Hamocks Tarp XL Tarp XL - DD Hammocks they do a cheaper smaller one but I'm glad I went large. It's well made and so far I cant fault it.
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

I meant to add. This (The DD Hammocks one) is the tarp I had slung over my tent at Rosedale. The pegs are the usual wire rubbish but the tarp itself is top notch.

However if it's for your tipi you may get on better with a hexagonal tarp like the one below as it fits the contours of the tipi better.

Thanks for that Boris, how heavy is yours as I do not see a mention of weight on the site? After a load of mooching around 'tinternet I came up with this one. Tenth Wonder Zoid Camping Tarpaulin 4.5 x 4.5m All NEW on eBay (end time 14-Oct-10 07:03:28 BST)

    Andy.

I refer the honourable gentleman to the following text on the above linked page

    Size: 4.5m x 3m
    Colour: Olive green
    Weight: 980g
Includes: 4 Guy ropes, 4 pegs and a small stuff sack

That's just over 2 pounds (or nine copies of the Sunday Post and a really comfy pair of slippers) for an old geezer like yourself If you are using it with the tent you will have to add decent pegs, poles and some additional cordage which will bump the weight up a bit.

The Zoid one looks good (and HUGE) but the only comment I have is it looks like there are no loops across the ridgeline and if you drape a tarp over a cord it tends to wear away quicktime with the wind movement . Best bet is to hang it from the ridgeline using loops.

I hear what you are saying Boris but I was hoping that as the tarp is so big I should be able to have a metre or so behind the pole on my tent, guy it down at the rear then run the rest forward to a central pole and tighten it that way, if you see what I mean?
By doing that I hope to keep any rainfall away from the door opening because the angle of the sides means that when you open the doorway water drips inside. I can purchase a spare centre pole from Vango to make the canopy more or less the same height as the tent so it may work out OK, if not then I will have a cover for about 3 bikes!
