what can i plug into my electric hook-up

Hi i am a new member so please be patient, I have just taken up camping again after a few years, but now have a 5 yr old with me and to help out have bought an electric hook-up, with rcd cut out etc, am planning on taking a small lcd tv and dvd player, and small fan heater, but have been told that i cannot use domestic appliances with the hook-up?, i am planning on buying the heater soon , but donot want to waste money on a small domestic shop bought fan heater, if i do indeed have to have a special camping one, similiar i donot want to take tv,dvd player if i am not allowed to use it, can anyone please clarifiy if this is true and what i am allowed to use with it, Many thanks.
