Default Suppliers and big brands. Help pls!

    Hello everybody,

My name is John, I'm a student from Holland and for my school project I am investigating the british and their camping habbits.

If you could anwser the following questions you will make me very happy.

    - What are the biggest distributors of camping equipment in England? (It should not be companies which operate online only)

-What are the biggest brands in England for camping equipment?

    Thanks in advance!

    John.

    John,

I can't help you with an answer, but you need to think about your question. You say you are looking at the "British" and their camping habits. Britain comprises Scotland, Wales, Northern, Ireland and England.

But your questions only refers to England, so you need to make it clear whether you mean the British and their camping habitats or the English and their camping habitats.

    John,

Glad to be of help, and I wish you luck with your question.

I suspect that just by looking at campsites, in terms of family tents, Vango, Outwell and Kyham are probably the tents that appear most often, but the tents that are considered the best tents are probably Nomad, Eureka, Cabanon, de Waard and Tentipi.

For lightweight tents, Hilleberg is probably rated higher than the competition, but Terra Nova, Golite and Vaude are well thought of.

I have a Nomad, a Hilleberg, and a GoLite and I am about to buy a Tentipi.

I suspect you would get a broader idea of "British" rather than English tent buying by analysing the posts at The UK Camp Site for Tent and Caravan Campers in the UK. You would need to check the location of each poster however, to know whether you were looking at campers from Scotland, Wales or England.

And of course, both here and there, you are getting a biased sample given that most posters will be "enthusiastic" campers, and probably not reflect the buying habits of the majority of British (or English, Scots or Welsh) tent buyers.

i think gelert and coleman are probably the most popular brands, because they are cheaper brands that can be bought in common high street stores like argos, millets, blacks etc.
millets and blacks and some others sell their own branded goods too.
if you want more variety and go to larger out of town stores like go outside, cotswold camping, or camper/caravan dealers, you can spend more money on the more technical equipement.

our camping habits are as varied as anyones i expect. from winebagos that have a small car in the back to hikers that drill holes in spoon handles to save weight. do you have dogs? kids? car motorbike bicycle or walk? cook your own food or camp near a pub?
