    Default MSR Whisperlite Stove

Been using an MSR whisperlite stove for about 3 years now, went for it as my bike carries 19L of fuel for it, so no need to carry gas etc.

Stove works very well but is a bit scary until you get used to it ( big flames at first ). Used it down to -6 deg with no problem and boils water very fast.

    But!!!!

It let me down when needed. Pump failed on a trip supporting a group walking. If I'd read the instructions your supposed to service them yearly.

Spares kit purchased and stove overhauled, now back to normal.

I know a few of you out there have MSR stoves so would recommend a quick service before your next trip, national coming up etc.

There are 2 kits annual and expedition, I got mine from 'Go Outdoors'.

    Thanks
    IanS

    Always fancied one of these.

Tentipi Safir 9 CP - Keeping us warm in the night.

Khyam Biker - Keeping me dry for the last few years.

I'm currently in the USA and these "Gas" stoves are much (and I mean MUCH) cheaper here. I've seen coleman sportsters for $45 and 2 burner dual fuel stoves for $68 the MSR whisperlite stoves were under $90. The big problem is getting them back to the UK. Postage for the dual burner stove was over $50 and none of the airlines will take stoves as baggage.

Shame as I would have had some even if just to pass on at cost here.
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

We are so ripped of here compared to both Europe and the USA for stuff like this, you'd have to pay the import duty on them if you bring them back to the UK...

...but if you use them briefly, take them apart bring back the heavy bits as used spares in your luggage and post the light bits (non flyable) back to the UK again marking them clearly on the customs paperwork as used parts (so no import duty.... lol, please note that defrauding the money grabbing, two faced politicians we call our government is illegal), its a common trick so i am told with bike/car parts.

UK customs charge duty on things valued at >£18, so you could break it down to pump+hose, frame+burner etc and post it bit by bit. its the metal bottle they dont like, but its a standard alloy fuel bottle, they are cheap here and any make should do, the threads are standard. you are pressurizing the bottle so dont get one of those really cheap unbranded ones.
