Cool my first thread on the new forum
We bought new sleepingbags for our trip to Ullapool. Now Deb(my wife)and I do not get on at all with the mummy shaped sleepingbags. So i was looking around what was available out there.
I orderd 2 Outwell Camperlux bags.Square shape and quiet large. At first i thought i made a big mistake when they arrived cause they are massive and as we travel by bike i thought no way they are going to fit onto the bike.
But i bought 2 Ortlieb bags which i used for the bags and strapped them on top of my panniers, sorted
The first night in the lake district was cold and we used them in the normal way and they where too warm.Up in Ullapool we opened them up(zip goes all the way around) used one as a blanket and one to lie on.Brilliant
We could move around where warm.Sorted
I paid i think not even £40 per bag,yes they are big and NOT light but they are warm and comfy. They are not for serious Campers/Backpackers/Hikers but i they are ideal for us.Great for couples, warm and gave us the best nights sleep camping in ages(or was that the scotish beverages
)
Once i figured out how to get the pics of my new phonei post them up
Here is a link for now

I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu
Packed in the Ortlieb bag
and on the bike(among other things)

IKWYM about having a big bag for comfort. I tried a Coleman Mummybag on my trip around France in April and felt like putting it on a bonfire. Prior to that I had used an XL cheapie for several years that had an approx 2-3 seasons rating I reckon.
For my recent trip to Italy however, I reverted to an old cheap polycotton bag, and supplemented it with a fleece liner from Wilkinsons that cost under a tenner. Brilliant!! In the Mountains, I put the fleece bag inside the polycotton bag and was warm and dry, no moisture probs at all. I then had the option of the poly cotton bag or the fleece bag to sleep in, depending on temperature. I think I may need a better sleeping bag before the Pyrenees in the Spring as I suspect it will be cold, but the 2 bag system has transformed my nights and is light to carry on the bike too. Some have suggested silk liners, but the fleece is easy clean and cheap to buy.
I carry the bags, an inflatable mattress and a 12v pump in my dry bag![]()

a couple of things:
are you still happy with them? presumably you used them at Piel, have you managed to squash them any smaller - and are you still happy they are not too heavy?
Have they enabled you to do away with any foamy type mattresses underneath?
and finally - did you use it at the elephant rally and was it warm enough in the snow!?
Your new black bike really does look the Biz!!
