Default Eurohike tarp canopy from Millets

Last Month at the National in Ullapool Winxp-master very kindly handed on to me his no longer used Eurohike tarp which was about £20 Millets (Thanks Craig). I have not had an opportunity to use this in anger yet but I felt I should at least have a go at pitching it in the garden.

The tarp is quite small being about 3 meters x 3 meters but the corners have been lopped of (by design) to make it almost hexagonal in appearance. There are six guy lines supplied in a rather garish yellow so hopefully you won't trip over them. Two four section poles are also supplied along with the usual wire pegs.

This is the Outwell one that seems to be exactly the same

Pitching wise it's quite difficult to do single handed and I found the easiest way was to peg it out flat on the ground and then insert the poles, one at a time, adjusting the guy lines as you go. With a helper things would have been much easier. Eurohike only supplied one guy line for each end and using two makes the whole shooting match much easier to pitch and more stable in use.

Once up the tarp provided reasonable cover for sitting under but, due to the corners being lopped off, it's too short for sleeping under so any Ray Mears types need to look elsewhere. The supplied pegs were also inadequate as they bent and pulled out easily but with replacements sourced out my camping box that problem was soon solved.

As a canopy to my Coleman Phad X3 Backpacking Tent it worked well as I could use the tent for supporting the back of the tarp and then shorten the two Eurohike poles by removing a section from each and have it provide cover to the front door to keep the rain out.

I've also pitched it as an entry canopy to my tentipi and then the shape worked in its favour. See Entry canopy on tentipi Safir tipi

I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu
