Default Entry canopy on tentipi Safir tipi

I had reason to pitch the tentipi in the garden yesterday evening and I thought I'd have a go as setting up the Eurohike tarp canopy from Millets as a canopy to protect the entrance of the tipi when the inevitable rain appears.

As a standalone tarp the (almost) hexagonal nature of the Millets tarp works against it but in use with the tipi however it works in its favour allowing it to fit closely without actually touching the fabric of the tipi.

I passed a line through the hanging loop of the tipi and pegged it out at the back of the tipi and used that to support the tipi end of the tarp. The other end was supported by a pole and guy lines as normal.

The tarp fitted perfectly and should be a huge boon when the weather turns. Thanks Craig.

The photos below should explain better than words.

I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu

No problem m8, i was just carting the thing around with me and not using it so i'm glad to see it go to some good use.

If it was the same colour as you tipi you could be forgiven for thinking that it was designed for that very purpose, fits really well.

It doesn't colour match, my misses would never accept it.

You could always paint your tentipi grey.

    Default Entry Canopy Safir

Looking for ideas for a good entry canopy I came accross a German familiy's site with a few configurations: see: Kċta mit Tarp und Moskitonetz at Wildnisabenteuer under: Ausrüstung and then: Wildniscamp..... as the site is built with all kinds of java-jumbo I can't offer a direct link. A second, more complicated configuration I found at Flickr.... on Frans Wit's page.
I'm open to more suggestions. As I am taking delivery of a Safir 9 CP next week I'll only then begin to expiriment.

    Interesting!
I like the more complicated version.

Spent a great weekend in our new Safir9cp..... Set-up in the rain with my 11 year old son took all of 15 minutes. Very satisfied with tent in general, but that's another thread.
Canopy set-up was certainly a challenge. Not wanting to run a line through the loop on the top of the tipi pole thinking tipi stability would be comprimised in high wind by attaching it to a 15m² canopy I went with the above-mentioned more "complicated" version. That's is going to take some practice. End goal would be to step from tipi to canopy with dry feet. From shelter to shelter as it were. Didn't get it together this time around.... even too ashamed to post a photo of the attempt. I hope others are expirimenting!

Just to add I've blogged on my use of the Eurohike tarp with my Tentipi... it went well. I've added some pics as well now.
