I have one of the older more traditional Leathermans, as you I always have one with me when camping. They are so useful.

Hi all,
A review of the Gerber Suspension multi tool.
I have now had this tool for about a year and definitely wouldn't go camping without it!!

Tentipi Safir 9 CP - Keeping us warm in the night.
Khyam Biker - Keeping me dry for the last few years.
I bought one of these Greber Suspension tools and it broke just opening it out for the first time. Took it back and got a leatherman instead. Shame as I really like my little Greber knife.
I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu
I don't doubt it. It was one of the heads of the bolts/rivets that holds the side plates together that sheared off and I was still in the carpark of the shop I bought it. I must admit it was a toss up between the Gerber and the Leatherman and the failure tipped the balance in favour of the more expensive leatherman. I needed to rely on it and lost confidence in the Gerber. In saying that I love my little LST with the 2" blade. Its the smallest one below.

i have a MK1 leatherman 'wave' (the old one with multiple tools, its more useful than the newer one with bit holder, that can only hold bits!) and its excellent still. got it for a song new on ebay years ago, before they banned knives.
RIDE magazine did a test of multitools last month, test was a bit "magaziney" if you know what i mean, but they had more choice than i thought was available. i think the gerber suspension got the "best buy" triangle.
i use mine for everything bar chopping wood, for campsites that allow fires i take a small hatchet or my gurkha kukri.
now heres an idea-
gerber, leatherman, victorinox et al all use the same basic construction principles of all tools being made out of the same thickness steel. so why cant a stockist have the bare handles and a tray of tools, the buyer specify what tools they want, the tool is put together for them and off you go. all multitools have something you never use in them, wouldnt it be great if you could swap it for something useful? its not rocket science- its two screws!
