    Default sleeping bag advice

I'm a bit of a beginner at camping, and I need a new sleeping bag - I need one to use in autumn and I'm a wuss, so I think I want one that has a comfort rating down to -5 or -10 DegC. I see our local camp shop has a Marmot Wave IV, rated as -10 DegC for £95 (which I think is a lot!). Any advice/comments gratefully received.

Never used a Marmot bag but the stuff of theirs that I have used has been good. Have a look at this site, it's only £79. The comfort rating is -3 but should keep you reasonable to -10. My girl has just bought a mountain equipment bag from Go outdoors for £95 and it's absolutely cracking.

I should point out that £95 is cheap for a really good sleeping bag! I'm looking at upgrading mine to a RAB four seasons bag which is going to cost over £200

I appreciate that - it's just that £95 is a lot of money for me to spend on this. I really want to be sure that it's going to be warm enough - I don't want to buy it and find out later it's rubbish. I'll check out you link Ta for that. :-)

I have tried quite a few ranging from £165 duck down to £25 bargain ones. The duck down was an absolute pain as if it gets damp or wet then there is no insulation properties at all. Fine if you never ever get any water in the tent and its not raining when you put it in there. I wouldnt get another duck down as you cant wash them easily, should store them unpacked, and cant get them wet.

The Army one was superb, very very warm and although duck down no issues at all. The problem was the bulk as it was for a motorbike but if I didnt use it for that I would have kept it.

Snugpak - Ok but too small and restrictive so sold it

Nanok duck down - Lost loads of feathers and wasnt very warm I found. (The army one was water resistant).

Nanok Synthetic - Slighter wider so you can turn in the bag but close enough to keep trapped warm air in. Superb tough bag and packs small plus when washed looks as new!
    Price is around: £75-80

I have my daughter in a 1 tog in the summer, and change her clothes accordingly, so on really warm nights she'll just wear a tshirt inside her bag. I think it's very rare that it's been so warm i put her to bed without the bag, so well worth the investment.

I run a holiday blog and covered an article on lightweight sleeping bags, check out the links as you may find them useful.

There are so many brands and types of sleeping bag it can be a complete nightmare trying to work out what is best for your use, it can depend on what time of the year you'll be using it, where you'll be sleeping and if you need to travel light.

    Hi all
For the lightweight trekker the 100% goose down mummy bag must be about the best for lightness with warmth and pack size. but for camping from a car the bags made for the Carp angler are tops in my opinion
The best in my opinion Nash Tackle - Product Catalogue here is a selection to choose from Sleeping Bags & Covers - Fishing Warehouse
I have used these bags for the last few years.
    Regards
    Rex.
