    Default Camping Stoves

    Hi,

I am new to the forum, and also to camping as i mentioned before in my previous thread about tents, however after getting some camping equipment for christmas i thought i would share my thoughts with you.

    My new Stove

A stove i have got and used is the 'Yellowstone 3 Burner Gas cooker with grill.
After cooking my dinners on it for the last week i can tell you that it is a brilliant piece of kit! It's a bit of a misnomer as it is really two burners, a hotplate and a grill but still it is fantastic, it cooks faster than my normal kitchen hob!
Also it packs up very thin so is easy to cart about, (it is a bit long however!) Dimensions are: 56cm x 32cm x 7cm.
One of the best bits about the product is the price, when I got it, it was £25 on Amazon UK (now its £31) however it's still a good buy.
The only drawbacks are you have to be careful opening the lid as it is slightly flimsy... An identical product is also sold under the name of Gelert and this i think is still £25. Also gas consumption is quite high... i'm about a quarter of the way through what i think is a 901 gas bottle already! (could be 904, i can't remember). Also as with most camping stoves the grill won't be that effective in the wind however inside the grill cooked food very well.

    So then:
    Pro's:
    Very Good Value
    Powerful
    Nice portable size
    Lightweight
Can be used on any plastic table
    Piezo ignition for two hobs

    Cons:
Lid is flimsy although when in place is supported well
Gas consumption is high at 328gm/h (1.5kw per burner)
Grill not very effective when outdoors

Overall this product gets a safe four stars from me **** thoroughly recommend to any experienced or beginner camper.

Have you ever thought about a portable barbecue? I bought a great one from: Weber Portable & Speciality Weber BBQs | Barbecue Store . In the long run I find it a lot cheaper than my old gas stove. I also find that it takes a lot more skill, there's something quite primitive about using a charcoal grill. What do you think?

have to admit we use a Camping Gaz Bistro suitcase stove and it is fine for kettle and bacon/egg butty duties bit not a decent meal

looking at this fella it seems really neat and compact, am I right in thinking it needs an external gas bottle? Also curious, are all the components (pipes and stuff) metal or is there rubber ? We were advised in a camp shop (and I suspect he wasnt entirely knowledgeable about things) that the cheaper stoves use rubber parts which degrade over time whereas Camping Gaz and Coleman only use brass pipes and dont - he might have been trying to convince me to buy a Coleman . . .

we use our stove with a Royal Greenstalk and it looks like it would be a perfect fit (and colour) for your stove (being green it clashes with our bright blue Gaz)
    Greenstalk Camping Kitchen

just like the old Hagos, the Greenstalk is modular so you can use individual levels or all of it. We use 1 shelf in the Ridge tent, 2 shelves in the Pyramid and all of it in the Frame Tent

Other great thing we got was the single slice gas ring toaster, a little too fast but way better than pyramid toasters - I guess with the grill you wont need one though ?

All the materials are hight quality, the piping is all metal, i believe it's brass or something... I don't really know... The only rubber piping is the connection to the gas bottle through the regulator...

It cooks really well, I made a three course meal for my parents on it, using the stoves and the grill...

@CamperJamie - bit of a random question. You mention that the lid is a wee bit flimsy, and as I do a lot of rock climbing and fell walking, how well do you think it would handle if someone had a tumble? Unlikely, but my partner is always tripping - so in the rare case that she was carrying the kit (which I doubt!!) do you think it would stand up to it?

    Hi, Friend

To be frank, your stove on amazon is really nice and portable, I think it is easy to use. Last year, I also purchased a wood stove from astove, at the beginning, I wanna use this wood stove in my big gazebo and a large marquee tent for my party, but, just as you know, for some reasons, I did not come it true...So I do hope I could come this idea true in 2012, and I hope you could also have a good time with your nice stove.
There is a must for you to own a strong marquee for your outdoor games, especially if the place you live is always coming with heavy wind.
