Just a heads up but I've just bought a vapalux parafin lamp ( similar to a Tilley lamp ) from my local ex army and navy store for £35. It's used but reconditioned with all washers and seals replaced. I thought it was a bargain anyway

I went to the zoo recently. The only animal there was a small dog. It was a shihtzu
I have a paraffin Tilley that dates from the '30s I think - I often see similar ones in museums and displays of olde-worlde stuff. It Still works fine with light output about the same as a 60watt bulb.
I also have more modern Coleman paraffin lamp that is very very bright - more like a 100watt or brighter bulb. Both individually throw out loads of heat too enough to keep our trailer tent awning warm all night.

Whats better, gas lamp or battery power?
