    Default Unofficial Cabanon Owners Club

I was supposed to be doing some work but ended up creating this website as a form of procrastination
    Unofficial Cabanon Owners Club

Their isnt a official Cabanon Owners club but it is one of the most popular of the older tent brands and has a massive following. So far there are just some catalogues and bits, hopefully one or two others are going to help me build some more content - and maybe Cabanon too (hopefully)

If it takes off I dont mind moving it onto a proper website address but my web skills are novice to say the least so its a bit of a learning curve for me

    Hi Littlekink
I have used Cabanon tents for over 30 years and in my opinion they make the finest bungalow frame tents in the world. the problem is about 3 years ago cabanon were taken over by a Canadian leisure company and I dont think they cover their tents now with the famous canvas sheets made under the name CGI I am not 100% sure of this fact but what I am sure off Cabanon is now useing TenCates all season coated polyester.and the retailers are quoteing that this material breaths, it does not tencate the makers of this canvas clearly state on their web site that the three types 4 season polyester canvas made by them delays the onset of condensation and that their poycotton solare and 100% cotton canvas breaths hear is a link to tencate site were it say what I said.
TenCate - Outdoor Fabrics - Which TenCate tent fabrics are available?
What we do know about cotton canvas that when it gets wet the canvas swell theres and close's the weave enough to keep out the large globules of rain
but still leaves very smalls holes to allow the minute partials of moisture to pass through to the outside to stop it condencing on the cooler sheet.
If you coat any type of material this does not happen but some materials collect moisture partial between the weave and hold the moisture for a while,if there are not many bodies passing out moisture and there is good ventilation the moisture will dry before it starts to drip.
So if you buy a new Cabanon tent it willstill be strong and protect you from wind and rain but it might start to drip.
If there is anyone out there that as any more information on the currant position of cabanon it would be nice to know but as these tents can last for as long as 30 years looked after, there is some very good deals to be had on eBay.
Good Look with your web site
    Regards
    Rex

thanks for the comments, and I agree Cabanon made some fantastic tents. And I agree 'proper' Canas is still a fantastic material for tents

from my reading of the 2011 catalogues All Season Polyester is in use a lot (and confusingly, to me at least, they sometimes refer to it as Canvas) but some models ie Awaya, Pyramids, 'Natural' range are definitely Cotton Canvas. Others Like the Aruba are less obvious what panels are Canvas and what is Polyester. I guess Cabanon where being priced out of business by using expensive materials and certainly in the UK people wont pay that much these days - to many people an Outwell Montana in Polycotton is the pinnacle, which is a shame - and precidely why I set up my other website The Joy of Canvas so people could understand what an amazing legacy of great (and often unloved) Canvas is still available in the used market - it is a kind of "Practical Classics" of tents

just to update on this, the Owners Club is no longer unofficial - Cabanon have approached me and agreed to help develop a "proper" Cabanon Owners Club and website

Still not sure how they want to play it, I have to have a chat with their marketing people in a few days to work through some of the details. Got to know a French chap on a French camping forum and he is helping move it to a dual language site - and correcting my dodgy translations and school boy French for me

If anyone wants to join early and have a say in what it becomes let me know
