Hi guy's, I'm also over from xrv and thought i'd give you a little review of the tents i use when camping in all weathers here in the uk.
Vango Carina : Bought this tent for two up traveling on a sports tourer, it's not the smallest in pack size but it is fairly lightweight, a little tricky to get the tention correct around the slooping back as you have to push the poles into a certain postion to stop it creating a puddle on the flysheet, never had it leak in over 10yrs of use, plenty of space inside for 2 and a nice porch that can take all your luggage and still give you space to cook, overall a good solid tent for all weathers but it's inner first which can take a while as you thread pole along sleeves running the length of the inner, but you can still have it up in under 5 mins.
Salewa Bergen 2: Again a comfy 2 man tent used on sports bikes and the africa twin but this time it has 2 side porches so opening up into driving rain is a thing of the past, the inner has a handy gear loft and with high side walls gives you plenty of floor space. Again it errects inner first, but with the clip system can be done in less than 2 with ease. It's been used in all weather conditions and only ever leaked once but that was a very wet week in cumbria, overall a good solid roomy tent for all weather just give it a extra dose of waterproofing before you set off.
Moutain Equipment AR Ultralight 2 : Bought this tent for mountain biking, walking and it is perfect for the R1. Very small and light packsize, it errects with the inner attached so no problem whatever the weather, very simple design with 2 vertical poles in the middle with guylines that can be tied to whatever there is 2 hand if something happens to the poles, again it's a twin side porch design so you can always open it away from the driving rain but it's marketed as a 2 person but to be honest you would have to leave everything bar your sleeping bags in the porches as it's very cozy inside, the sloping front means your feet press against the flysheet which is abit worrying for my 6ft frame but as yet no wet feet in the morning and after a very wet night in Inverness last summer was no mean feat. Overall i think this is a comfy 1 man tent with the drawbacks of such a small tent, but it's still the one i grab for a quick night away.
Hope these help any of you.
