Used our pre-loved Khaym for the first time in September 2008.
We managed to pitch the tent itself in less than 15 mins (even though we lost the video before we watched it so sort of only had half an idea what we were doing).
The Quick Erect system is great. The poles very quickly 'snap' into place and then it's just a matter of pegging out. I have no doubt that I could manage to pitch all by myself if need be. Even my 12yr old daughter could get the basic structure done herself.
The footprint is a must as it will save the tent getting dirty (especially after this summer) when pitching and decamping.
There are 2 sleeping pods - one at each end - and they are easy to attach. There is room for a double airbed in one and two singles in the other so plenty of space for 4. Bed pods have ground sheets.
I would only use this as a short stay tent for our family (2 adults and 2 about to be teenage girls - and al ltheir 'stuff' ) which is why we got it, as the living area is not really big enough for all the kit you take on a weeks holiday - either that or you need the porch or sun canopy. We managed to fit in a gelert double aluminum slatt table and 4 chairs (2 adults size and 2 child size) but not an awful lot of room for anything else furniture wise - just a crate for storage of shoes/wellies.
Head height is good apart from first entry when you have the door 'up'. Both of us had to bend a little (me only 5' 52) but OK once inside. I would imagine there would be a problem with rain getting in every time you open the door if the weather is bad so again you would need a porch/sun canopy.
Tent has no sewn in ground sheet so we had a cheap tarp on top of the footprint in the living area. (then the picnic blankets!)
Tent was warm (didn't need the heater on at all even in mid Sept)and for the most part dry. One small leak at taped seam where velcro bits are sewn into the seam on the roof - not sure if this is to do with the tent or something the previous owner did so will give tent the benefit of the doubt. Easily fixed. But thinking it was just condensation ad a natural run point.
Did get lots of condensation on the second night/third morning but it was mid September and a clear sky at night and nippy first thing morning, but nothing was wet or dripping.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tent to any family of 4 looking for a quick set up weekend/short stay tent or for 2 people for longer stays. Have a picture if anyone wants one
The Quick Erect system is also to be recommended as I am sure this would be of even more benefit if the weather was wet or windy when trying to erect it. Tri Guys and delta pegs are a good combination.(Delta pegs not supplied with tent)
Don't know what the equivalent 2008 model would be but I would definitely consider getting one of the newer 6 man ones as our main tent.
Dimensions of tent are:
Length 640cm
Width 250cm
Living space 250cm x 240cm
Bed pods 200cm x 240cm
